Dolores Sherman, AFC, BCCC
Dolores Sherman is the visionary Founder and President of There’s No Place Like Home Homebuyers Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding homeownership opportunities through comprehensive financial counseling and education. With firsthand experience overcoming financial hardship, Dolores created a holistic program that includes financial education, credit building, and home-buying guidance, empowering individuals and families to achieve lasting financial stability and sustainable homeownership.
After relocating to Atlanta in 2005 and gaining valuable experience with Consumer Credit Counseling Service, Dolores launched Helping Others Progress Economically (H.O.P.E.) in 2009, focusing on personalized financial support. In 2020, recognizing an increased need for accessible homeownership resources, she founded There’s No Place Like Home Homebuyers Club. Under her leadership, the organization has grown to address a wide array of consumer needs. Her next goal is to secure HUD-approved counseling agency certification for the organization.
Dolores graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Rhode Island with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies, a minor in Women’s Studies, and a certificate in family financial counseling and planning. She also holds an associate degree in social work from the Community College of Rhode Island and is both an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) and a Board Certified Credit Consultant (BCCC). With a commitment to guiding others toward financial independence, Dolores often shares her personal mantra, “Debt-free happens one day, one dollar, one decision at a time.”
Regina DeLay, DBA
Dr. Regina DeLay brings over 20 years of expertise in counseling and business management to her role as Vice President of There’s No Place Like Home Homebuyers Club. With a doctoral degree in Business Administration and a concentration in business management, she has dedicated her career to empowering individuals and families to achieve financial stability and homeownership.
In her current role as Program Coordinator for the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program at the Marietta Housing Authority, Dr. DeLay guides participants in meeting HUD's rigorous graduation requirements, including sustained employment, financial independence from cash welfare, and the completion of personalized goals designed to foster long-term self-sufficiency. Under her leadership, the Marietta Housing Authority has received numerous accolades from federal, state, and local organizations. Her work has also earned her individual recognition for outstanding contributions in housing and financial empowerment.
At There’s No Place Like Home Homebuyers Club, Dr. DeLay plays an instrumental role in shaping the organization’s strategic direction, ensuring that clients receive the tools, education, and resources they need to achieve sustainable homeownership. Her passion for economic empowerment and commitment to helping others achieve financial independence fuel her mission to create lasting change in the lives of those she serves.
Darrell Jones, EdD
Dr. Darrell Jones serves as the Treasurer of There’s No Place Like Home Homebuyers Club. During his 20+ year Army career, he developed strong leadership skills, rose to the rank of First Sergeant (1SG), and served as the senior non-commissioned officer advising the company commander and overseeing the well-being, discipline, and readiness of the soldiers in his unit. While assigned to the finance and accounting office, 1SG Jones earned his undergraduate degree in accounting.
In addition to his Doctorate in Education, Dr. Jones holds the designation of Accredited Financial Counselor and leads a dedicated team of personal financial counselors (PFCs) at Fort Campbell, KY, providing essential financial education and support to military families. These PFCs support total force readiness by equipping service members and their families with the tools, education, and counseling needed to achieve financial well-being through personal financial goals. By helping service members manage their finances effectively, they enable them to maintain focus on their duties, thereby contributing to overall mission readiness and success. Dr. Jones is also an adjunct professor at a community college, where he teaches financial courses to empower students with critical financial knowledge.
Dr. Jones’s passion for financial literacy and economic empowerment drives his commitment to There’s No Place Like Home Homebuyers Club. He brings the same leadership and effective financial management skills he honed in the military to his role on the board, ensuring the nonprofit’s financial stability and operational success. Leveraging his extensive expertise in financial management and counseling, he enhances the organization’s capacity to achieve its mission of fostering sustainable homeownership and economic empowerment. Dr. Jones is also actively involved in community outreach initiatives, promoting financial literacy programs that equip individuals with the skills needed to navigate their financial journeys successfully.
Fallon Banks
Fallon Banks serves as the Secretary of There’s No Place Like Home Homebuyers Club. A dedicated single mother of three, Fallon has overcome significant challenges, spending 14 years on Section 8 housing assistance. Inspired by her journey, she enrolled in the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program, graduating and purchasing her home in Atlanta, GA, in 2021.
Currently, Fallon works full-time as a Care Manager in a medical office while successfully managing her family-owned commercial cleaning company. As a graduate of the There’s No Place Like Home Homebuyers Club program offered at the housing authority, she learned valuable skills in money management, goal setting, and financial planning. Working closely with a TNPLH counselor, Fallon was able to decrease her debt, increase her income, and improve her credit score, ultimately achieving her dream of home ownership and establishing a business for additional income.
Fallon joined the board to promote the very program that enabled her to become a homeowner. She actively contributes to the mission of There’s No Place Like Home Homebuyers Club, believing that everyone deserves access to the resources and support necessary for sustainable homeownership and financial stability.
Fallon is passionate about empowering others and is committed to using her experiences to help families navigate their financial challenges. By leveraging her newly gained knowledge in financial literacy, she aims to enhance the nonprofit’s outreach efforts and programs. With a vision of creating a supportive community where individuals can thrive, Fallon advocates for more financial education and support services, ensuring that others have the tools and encouragement they need to build a better future for themselves and their families.
